Your Holiday Tradition
turkey day 5k boise (Due tothe change in the governor's re-opening plan we are going virtual)
While working for months to prepare a Covid-safe event under Idaho’s Stage 4 and 3 reopening guidelines, our plans have been continuously vetted and updated to follow all of the state and local health district guidelines. We were absolutely confident that we were producing a safe and fun event for everyone involved.
Unfortunately, with Governor Little rolling the entire state back into Stage 2 (and we are hearing Stage 1 is a very real possibility within weeks) we can no longer operate an event that will meet the state’s Stage 2 guidelines (no gatherings of 10 or more people). There is just no way for the event, even with the two-hour start window, to keep everyone separated. Our entire staff has always taken this pandemic very seriously- everyone’s health and safety is our primary concern.
Here is our plan moving forward: The event will go virtual for 2020 with all the shirts and bibs being mailed to everyone beginning at the end of this week. We are asking everyone to join us live on air with our partners at Towne Square Media and our host Kevin Miller on Thanksgiving Morning. Use your GPS device to post your time, and share your experiences on Facebook and/or Instagram. We will be reading them out as they come in between 8 am and 10 am Thanksgiving morning. If you have a youngster that would like to have their name read on air shoot us a private message and we will try our best to make that happen.
It goes without saying that we want to thank each and every one of you for supporting this event for the past 10 years. We have been able to provide financial support to so many local groups through this event, and we would not have been able to do this without you. Thank you for being kind and patient, and for your understanding during this tumultuous time.
We are disappointed that the live gathering aspect of the event must be changed, as we are sure many of you are, especially since this was our 10th anniversary year. We will all hopefully be back in full celebration mode in 2021.
Sincerely,
The entire Turkey Day 5K Staff
